June is Cataract Awareness month. What is a cataract? A cataract is clouding of the eye’s e lens, which blocks or changes the passage of light into the eye. Did you know that cataracts are the world’s leading cause of blindness? Cataracts account for approximately 42 percent of all cases of blindness. Cataracts are treatable with a simple surgery procedure. The good news is that cataract surgery has a 95 percent success rate! How are cataracts detected? Your eye doctor can examine the lenses of your eyes for signs of a cataract.
Here is what you can do:
1. Go to your eye doctor every year for an eye exam.
2. Get recommended eye tests and eye screenings done each year with your eye doctor.
3. In between your annual eye doctor’s appointment, if you are having symptoms or issues with your vision, do not wait. Make an appointment with your eye doctor and get your eyes examined.
