Motorcycle Safety

Motorcycles are harder to see than a regular vehicle - stay alert and share the road! On the road, motorcycles have the same rights as any other vehicle.

If you're a motorcyclist - take a few seconds to review the safety tips below as the season starts to ramp up!

  • Always wear a DOT-approved helmet

  • Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol and never allow friends to do so

  • Dress properly with a helmet, gloves, eye protection, a jacket, long pants and sturdy boots or shoes

  • Wear reflective clothing to be seen more easily by other motorists

  • Ensure your bike is is good working order before each ride and keep up on routine maintenance

  • Travel at a safe speeds and adjust for wet and loose surfaces, remember that a slower speed is equivalent to a longer reaction time

  • Especially in Wisconsin, always be on alert for deer

  • Keep a safe following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you

  • Be aware of your proximity to all vehicles around you

  • Check your mirrors frequently and be proactive in checking what is behind you before putting on your brakes, slowing down or turning
