Protect Your Belongings (with a video)!
In the event of a burglary or vandalism of your home, having documentation of your belongings could save you a lot of time and money! Take photos or a video of the items in your home. Even a video from the camera on your phone works.
Document as much as you can - focusing on your most valuable items. Get clear footage and describe each item as you film. For any items that have a serial number, say the number aloud in the video or have them all written on a list and include the list on the video. Capturing brand names and model names is also helpful.
Go through every room in the entire house (opening closets, drawers, etc.), and don’t forget the basement, garage, and storage shed! Lay smaller items out in one place to make it easier to film and easier to see each item.
Items to remember;
Be sure the video or photos are saved in a place you can still access if your belongings are stolen or destroyed - in a physical place like a safety deposit box or fireproof safe, or as a file saved in online cloud based storage.
